The Ultra Kilowatt is essentially a more durable version of TNF’s line of pure trail running shoes, such as the Single-Track Hayasa. It was created, along with other footwear and apparel, based on research done at the Mountain Athlete in Jackson Hole, a training facility where mountain athletes, such as TNF ultrarunner, Mike Wolfe, can go to cross-train. What they found was that the shoes and footwear were getting shredded and wearing out quickly; then they addressed the issues, and the Ultra Kilowatt is one of the results. The Ultra Kilowatt is a lightweight, minimally-structured shoe; however it is reinforced in areas that take extra abuse, such as the arch, where a stronger, more durable rubber is used, and in the toebox with its protective rubber toe cap. Additionally, the outsole is made of Vibram rubber for increased durability. This trail shoe has been designed to hold up to intensive training and mountain pursuits and is ideal for everything from Crossfit-type workouts to trail running to cross country peak bagging to multi-day fastpacking.
