I run because: It feels so good when I stop

When I'm not running I: Work too hard, direct the Bishop High Sierra Ultra Marathons, navigate for Dr. Clark in the California Rally series, maintain some semblence of home life, quilt, knit and cook.

Running since: Fedruary 1998

I run because: I'm a bipedal hominid and running (aka long distance upright bipedal travel) is a part of my evolutionary lineage. Besides it makes me feel good.

When I'm not running: I'm raising my two boys, Reymond age 9 and Dezert Sky age 7 with my wife Brenda, working at theGreat basin Unified Air Pollution Control District, peak bagging (still considered running?), gardening, sleeping, and eating. I have been known to do these things simultaneously.

Ceal Klingler
Age: 37
Home: Bishop

Running since: I learned towalk. But didn't develop a regular habit (er..addiction) until 8 years ago when it finally sank in that running was a much more delightful way to see the Sierra Nevada than hauling a backpack around.

I run because: I like to go places and see stuff. Specifically, living stuff as in plant and animal stuff, and nonliving stuff, such as granite, alpine lakes, and snow.

When I'm not running: I work on water issues, write, drool over topo maps, and meander around the backcountry at a slightly slower but no less enjoyable pace with my husband and our furry four-legged masters, dogs Lucy and Badger.

Favorite race: Bsihop High Sierra Ultra marathon

Favorite Local Runs: My favorite quick, low overhead evening trail run is from the Tyee Lakes Trailhead (off the road to South Lake). On a long day it's possible to to head up West Line Street after work , run up the trail, watch the sun set from one of the Tyee Lakes or Table Mountain and be home in time for dinner (approximately 8 miles or less roundtrip).

Tom Higley
Age: 55
Home: Swall Meadows

Running since 1968

Ever since I took up running in high school, I’ve enjoy that sense of pushing my body to its limits and the total exhaustion that comes with a good workout.  I also enjoy the peace and serenity that comes with a long run through the local countryside.

When I’m not running, I’m working part-time here at Sage to Summit.  Last fall, I retired after 36 years with the Forest Service, most of it managing the Jeffrey pine forest between Mammoth and June Lake.  I also, enjoy peak bagging (100+ so far), cross-country skiing and bicycling.

Favorite Race is Twin Cities Marathon.

Favorite Local runs are the Shady Rest Climb and Deer Mountain Loop

Jeff Perry

Age: 39
Home: Swall Meadows

Running since: I was 13

I run because: It keeps me sane, keeps me able to do other things that I want to do-be in the mountains.
When I'm not running: I'm teaching, building things, brewing beer, playing the guitar and being a dad!
Favorite Race: Mt. SAC (San Antonio College) Invitational.
I ran it every year in highschool and now watch my students run it as their coach.

Favorite Local Runs: Tungsten Hills cross country course (3 stream crossings and a pet cemetary). Rock Creek Trail, running the dirt trails between Hwy 395 and the Gorge, and Pine Creek to Rock Creek

Connie Henderson

Age: 50
Home: Mono City, North of Mono Lake

I run to keep fit and to be outdoors in our beautiful area. Iam running this spring to train for my first half maraton, the Country Music Half Marathon on April 28, 2007 in Nashville. I am running with Team in Training to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am celebrating my 20th year as a survivor of leukemia, AML. Over 11,930 adults were diagnosed with AML last year and 9,040 died of the disease. While now some childhood leukemia's have a 80-90% cure rate, AML in adults still only has a 30% survival rate. I am truly one of the lucky ones. By donating to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society you can help researches in their search for a cure. For more information on my journey through leukemia and to make a donation, please visit my website http://sistersrun.395.com. I am also running for my Patient Hero, Judie Forsyth from San Diego who is currently healing from her second bone marrow transplant at Scripps Hospital.

When I'm not running, I work as a psychotherapist in private practive in Mammoth Lakes. I live with my husband, Dave Marquart and our two cats. We enjoy being outdoors birding, hiking, skiing, and sitting by a lake or a mountain.

Favorite race: 5K Mammoth Hopsital Run

Favorite Local Run: The BLM road out the back of Mono City to Cemetery Road, past Wilson Creek to Black Point road to the Black Point Parking lot (8.8 miles round trip).
